I have always believed that mindset plays a crucial role in anything we do, and this belief has been reaffirmed time and again throughout my entrepreneurial journey. Building and growing my company, Ergode, has not been without its fair share of challenges and obstacles. However, it is my resilient and growth-oriented mindset that has helped me overcome these hurdles and achieve success.
One of the most challenging obstacles I have faced on my entrepreneurial journey is persevering through difficult times. It is easy to get discouraged when things don’t go as planned or when faced with setbacks. But with the right mindset, I have learned to view these challenges as opportunities for growth and improvement.
Maintaining a positive outlook even in the face of adversity is crucial. I vividly remember a specific moment when I realized the power of a resilient mindset. In the early stages of building Ergode, every single customer feedback mattered. We went out of our way and stepped out of our comfort zone to reach out to our customers, not with the intention of gaining an incentive, but simply to help them with any issues they were facing. This act of resilience and genuine care for our customers not only strengthened our relationship with them but also fueled our growth and success.
To foster a growth-oriented mindset within my own entrepreneurial endeavors and inspire it in others, I always remind myself and my team that every credible business problem is solvable if we have the intent to solve it. By encouraging everyone to adopt this mindset, we ensure that challenges are viewed as opportunities for growth and innovation rather than insurmountable obstacles.
Throughout my journey, I have had instances where my mindset was tested. One such occasion was when we unexpectedly lost our Amazon account due to reasons beyond our control. It was a difficult time, especially considering that it was still the early years of our business and we were not yet well-versed in understanding Amazon’s policies and processes. However, with perseverance and a commitment to growth, we stayed strong and found ways to make it work. We focused on doing what we were good at and what we enjoyed, and this helped us maintain a positive outlook during those challenging times.
Failures and setbacks are inevitable in any entrepreneurial journey. However, it is how we approach these situations with the right mindset that can turn them into valuable learning experiences. I recall a time when a customer was unhappy and escalated the situation to the leadership team within the marketplace. The order was worth $300, and instead of fighting against the customer, we decided to give them a full refund along with the order. Although it seemed like a setback at that moment, it later turned into a valuable lesson. By taking this approach, we not only resolved the customer’s issue but also built trust and saved a significant amount of money in the subsequent years.
Maintaining a resilient mindset in the face of adversity and uncertainty requires personal strategies and motivation. One song that has always motivated me during such times is “Hum Honge Kamyab” (“we shall overcome”). This song serves as a reminder that I am in control of the situation and that I have the ability to overcome any challenge with the right mindset.
