Carpe Diem: The importance of seizing the day

For the first time, I would like to start by asking everyone a question. What is the meaning of the word ‘opportunity’? There are multiple definitions of it. According to the dictionary, the word opportunity means a time or set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something. For me, the word opportunity means a chance to be the best and to be separated from the rest. The word itself inspires hope. It’s a stairway to a better life. Recognizing an opportunity is one thing, seizing it and making the most out it is another. Real opportunities don’t come knocking on your front door. They are usually disguised as a problem or hard work and the only way to seize them is by facing them head-on. When I was starting young, I was hell-bent on making a mark. I knew opportunities are going to be challenging to come by. So, whatever chance I was going to take, I was going to give my all and make the most of it. And look where that has got me today. Life is all about Carpe Diem (You guessed it, I’m a big fan of Dead poet’s society). It means seize the day, put minimal trust in tomorrow.

As a CEO and founder, nothing makes me happier than seeing young leaders within our company seizing the opportunities and making a mark for themselves. I would like to dedicate this space to them. One of our significant achievements was when we received our first 2 Google promotions from our vendors. A special shout out to Mr. Akshay Potnis on driving this task across the finish line and for being an opportunist. I would also like to call out the effort of Ms. Pooja Yadav from the VVI – FBM department. She took up the task of Google MP and worked on it manually which resulted in us receiving our first order on our very first day. This blog would be incomplete without a special mention to Mr. Snehasis Ghosh for successfully negotiating with one of our prime suppliers and piloting them on board. Also, a shout-out to Shrenik Parab and his team for keeping our Ergodebooks website functional after we received over 100 orders continuously, 2 days in a row. Lastly, I would like to congratulate Arvind Parekh, Shadab Akhlaq and Aishwarya Rai for resolving salary audit related queries for the year 2018-2019 within the timeline. Keep it up, guys.

I expect to see many more opportunists over the coming months. Stepping out of your comfort zone and snatching possibilities is not easy and understandably frightening. Coming from someone who knows exactly what that feels like, here’s one piece of advice I would like to give to my fellow Ergodians –  grab every opportunity you get in life and make the most of every single day. After all, life begins outside your comfort zone.
