People Management

People management is one of the most important leadership skills. As discussed in my previous blog, employee engagement in the workplace is more likely to contribute towards company’s success. More effort and attention devoted by engaged employees to accomplish the target and help the organization to achieve the goals. People management plays the major role to reach the level, as it influences productivity, boost morale, build trust and keeps the motivation on.

The right qualities of a manager can make all the difference, this is a continuous process for leaders to improve communication, monitor workflow, be a good listener, understanding, providing opportunities, discover the strengths, identify areas of improvement and preparing them for the next leader.

Sharing some of the qualities and experiences which helped me as a manager to build a strong team for the organization.

Active listening: The very first parameter to work upon. If you want to build trust you need to be a good listener, it helps to know the persons emotion, ideas, point of views and their feelings. Once this is clear it becomes very easy to clear doubts and eliminate conflicts. There is nothing good communication cannot resolve. Slowly and steadily, you build a culture of respect.

Trust: Trust builds confidence and people feel free to communicate, being honest and transparent can make your target easier. Once people are comfortable and trust you, they express their ideas, gives more space to discover themselves and have courage to propose solutions. Building trust can improve communication and helps you bridge the gap between employee and employer.

Patience: Its quite evident to value speed, quick result, spontaneous decision, chasing TAT in our corporate culture, these keeps you alive in the competition. While following this path, most of us don’t even realize that we don’t have room for patience. We just need to revisit the room and brush up a little by following simple exercise like listening with positive attitude, observing, understanding, analyzing and then reacting on the situation, this helps you understand the entire situation and gives time to think and work on correct resolution.

Focus on employee strengths: Regular feedback and coaching is one of the biggest factors to manage people at work, your knowledge should attract someone to be like you, focusing on strength and correcting someone regularly can not only help them achieve the goal but to reach the next level.

Rewards and recognition – Never miss an opportunity to appreciate good work. Recognition in public, a trophy, pay hike, incentive is some of the key factor of motivation. It encourages employees to continue the hard work, increase loyalty and retention.

Conclusion: Identifying your strength and weakness can lead you follow the above direction and help you achieve happy and productive work environment. Stay in touch see you soon!!!
