Mixing business with pleasure is considered to be one of the debatable topics, every individual has their own way of operating business, some feels business and pleasure are two different end of a pole which cannot be bend and put together, business gets unshaped, they keep it simple to achieve the goals. However, some strongly agrees to mix pleasure with business and believe pleasure reduces stress and helps to focus more to achieve their goals. Since the results are positive for both the concepts, why not try to understand the art to mix business with pleasure.

In order to successfully mix business with pleasure, you must know the boundaries between what is feasible and what is just not possible. Only certain aspects of business can be mixed with pleasure. One can maintain the relationship uninterrupted by dealing with professional and personal life separately. For example, professional events are morale booster for employees, it makes them feel special and sometime they take the liberty to cross restrictions. In most cases the reason provided for such instances are they were not aware of the DO’s and DON’T’s.  It becomes difficult to handle such situation. So, to avoid such instances, it’s always advisable to introduce a small instruction to the team before the event, which helps all members to maintain the decorum.

On other hand, I remember a quote that states “Once a leader always a leader” No matter where you go, you are being noticed. The most common mistake noticed is to drink and act unwisely in a team outing or a small get to gather with your colleagues.  A reputation developed outside office can hamper your professional life, it might affect your business and reputation. Team outing or small get to gather definitely help to build team bonding and bridge the gap, in such situation avoid getting involved in an argumentative discussion or provide suggestion on topics. Being neutral can separate you from uninvited circumstances.     

Socialization is also considered to be one of the important parts of business however mixing it with pleasure can swing both sides.  If not used wisely it can disturb your personal and professional life.  For example, over friendliness can get someone closer to know many things about you, this gives a liberty to judging and distrust specially when expectations are not fulfilled completely. Improper socialization can also gives rise to office politics, professional humiliation, unhealthy atmosphere, and emotional stresses.  

Other side of the coin says socialization to some extent is necessary for professional life, for example sometimes your partner, colleague or friend can go extra mile (Extend shift, Work on weekend) to help you complete the project within the deadline, Proper usage of socialization helps you build strong network, makes you famous. It also gives you an opportunity to expand business, get resources, access to different business opportunities, professional environment and helps to understand market strategy. Which can be your key to success.
