Let me start by saying that the global outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic has created considerable challenges for leaders at organizations of all sizes. The way leaders are able to handle this crisis will decide whether the company will come out stronger on the other side or not. I think in such a delicate situation, being honest and fair with your employees is of utmost importance. I am listing down the points below that have helped me to communicate effectively during this crisis.
1) Being Crystal Clear: Leaders should convey information that is clear and to the point. There should not be any confusion when a message is being shared with the employees. Our message should provide clear guidance on what the employees are expected to do.
2) Be Genuine: Being genuine and communicating in a rightful manner is crucial during a crisis. I feel that when you communicate genuinely, the receiver at the other end is bound to notice it.
3) Have Empathy: When a leader communicates with empathy, it can lead to an enhanced employee trust. I have always believed that the value of empathy urges us to show an understanding of each other’s situation.
4) Exhibit Confidence: To convey with positivity is an important leadership quality. It becomes even more effective during difficult times. When we portray an optimistic outlook, we can foster positive thoughts and inspire our employees.
In moments like the current one, we should ensure to keep the conversations light.

On a serious note, I felt the need to communicate with my fellow Ergodians as COVID-19 was spreading far and wide. I recorded a video and conveyed all my thoughts to my Ergodians. The point at the top of my mind was the safety of my employees and their families. I spoke to them from my heart. I wanted to reach out to them and assure them that they are not alone in this crisis. I did give them a fair idea about how the business was doing. How we are trying to continuously serve our customers and our marketplace commitment. Having said that, in the video, I told my Ergodians that we never want to cross the line of safety. I asked them to continue working at their pace as all of them would be working from the remote locations. I wanted that video to give the strength to my Ergodians to carry on the show. I offered to help and informed them that I will be more than happy to step in at any moment.
I am really proud to see how the entire team has come together. I am pretty sure that we will come out stronger at the other end. I just pray for more strength and courage for my Ergode family and everyone in this world.
