Employee engagement: The importance of enjoying work

There are multiple definitions of employee engagement depending on who you ask. Employee engagement has become one of the most important points in todays workforce. Companies are beginning to realize that keeping your employees happy will result in better business. I like to define employee engagement as happy employees = successful company. Over my last several visits to India I was very happy to see multiple employee engagement activities. Be it the Token Redemption activity or the end of month Birthday Bash. These are events that every Ergodian looks forward to every week. The significance of such activities cannot be stressed enough. Organizations that have engaged employees have double the rate of success compared to organizations that have disengaged employees. How does employee engagement activities actually impact a company? Allow me to explain.

 Employee satisfaction

There is no doubt that employee satisfaction is key in any organization. When employees are not satisfied with their job they lack the enthusiasm to carry out their daily tasks. This turns out to be a drain on the companys time and money. With the help of fun activities, the employees feel a greater connection to the company. They look forward to such activities on a weekly basis. This results in greater enthusiasm and increased quality of work which benefits the company.

 Educative

Knowledge never goes to waste. Conducting timely educational sessions like the tax planning sessions we had recently will help employees in the long run. They learn more about how to invest their income wisely. Having blood donation camps and animal welfare sessions will help employees give something back to the society. Showing them highly educative videos on ownership and accountability will also make them model employees and leaders.

Improved attendance

Engaged employees will always look to show up to work regularly. On the other hand, disengaged employees won’t feel a sense of responsibility to the company they work for. They will always find a reason to not show up. Having a reason to show up to work daily will result in increased productivity. This will also help them grow rapidly within the organization from a positional and financial viewpoint.

 Encourage participation

The main goal of employee activities is to have fun. These activities will help encourage participation. When every employee participates in such activities the morale of the team is boosted. This will help build team spirit which will result in achieving goals on time with quality. These activities also help promote a friendly work environment, improved creativity, better work-life balance, etc.

It is important to work hard. It is also important to unwind from time to time and enjoy along with your fellow employees. When you enjoy what you do, work becomes play. I would like to end this by thanking the Corporate Communications and the Admin team for helping organize the weekly activities. Keep up the good work.
