In the blink of an eye, another year goes by. While I am a bit sad that 2019 has come to an end, I am very optimistic about what 2020 has in store for all of us. 2019 was definitely an amazing year. We welcomed new Ergodians to our growing family. We even celebrated the performances of each Ergodians through Ergorhythm 2019. Similarly, there are many small priceless moments I will fondly remember as I welcome the New Year with open arms.
One of the most common ways a lot of people choose to begin the year is by setting New Year’s Resolution. A resolution is a promise you make by committing to a goal that will improve you in the coming year. Have you ever wondered how New Year’s resolution came into existence? The tradition of New Year’s resolutions originated in the year 153 B.C. January is named after Janus, a mythical god of early Rome who had 2 faces. One would forward while the other would look behind. They imagined Janus looking backward into the old year and forward into the new year. This became a symbol for the Romans to make resolutions for the New Year and forgive enemies for troubles in the past year. This is how New Year’s resolution was born.
A resolution will offer you a fresh start and a clean slate to the New Year. You can use it to get rid of a bad habit or begin a healthier lifestyle or climb the ladder of success at your workplace. When setting a resolution you should always remember that it is not a sprint but a marathon. Start small and make resolutions that you can keep. Write your resolutions down where you can remind yourself of your daily intentions. Just like our MGAF system, set goals that are specific, measurable, attainable and relevant. Don’t forget that you are human and it’s OKAY if you slip up. Just make sure you get back on track and keep working towards your goal.
Every resolution is important. Whether you decide to have a healthier lifestyle, spend more time with your family or spend more time in the office. Cheers to the New Year and another chance for us to get it right!
