I cannot stress enough on the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance but many of us find it difficult to switch off even while we are on a holiday. While the technological boom has helped us connect with various aspects of the world, we have somehow found it very difficult to disconnect when it matters the most. Working hard and diligently is a good thing. But working too hard and giving little or no importance to your personal life could lead to less productivity. Stress and anxiety are part and parcel of any job profile. Taking constant breathers from your rigorous work life can help you significantly reduce or eliminate it. Hence, today I would like to use my life experiences to help enlighten you on how to make the most of your week offs and disconnect from the daily hustle and bustle.
Meditation and Exercise
The best way to overcome work and personal life stress is to meditate and exercise. If you find it difficult to visit a gym just take a walk for at least 30 minutes, it can work wonders. Taking time out for yourself to undertake such recreational activities can be considered as ‘ME’ time.
Avoid Work Chat at home
A lot of people love to talk about their day’s work when they are at home. I also love talking about Ergode (I love my work) with my family members. But don’t let work chat consume your personal life. Learn to create boundaries between work time and family time. If you’re having a bad day at the office, discussing work at home can sometimes bring out negative feelings. So, try avoiding it.
Family Time
The importance of spending time with family cannot be stressed enough. When you are at home you need to switch off completely from the digital world. Be available for your family, help out in the household chores. After all, family time is the best and cheapest form of therapy.
Make plans
On your week offs don’t forget to meet your friends. They can help you unwind after a hard week’s work. Take your family out for sightseeing or make plans to watch the latest movie. Reading a book is also a great way to de-stress. Making plans can make your week more exciting. It’s a great way to recharge your battery.
Having a healthy physical and mental health is very important if you aim on going the distance in achieving your professional goals. You don’t want to end up being burnt out or suffer from work fatigue as a result of overworking. So, WORK HARD, PLAY HARD. After all, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!
