How Friendly Work Environments Boost Employee Productivity

When I was a small kid, I never experienced any family day where the company my father used to work in, called us to spend a day in office. Neither did I hear from my father about any celebrations and events in his office. All that I always observed was he leaving for office dressed up in formals with a small briefcase in his hand and returning back in the late evening, all tired. But once I grew up and took the first step in my career, the workplace landscape was completely different. We had a cafeteria, both professional and friendly environment and I saw a decline in the strict norms of workplace culture.

This made me realize that workplaces are constantly evolving and a thing of glory in the past was now becoming a distant story in modern workspaces. I understood that there is a constant room for improvement in any organization. With a wide range of trendy tips flowing every day, it becomes essential for companies to enhance their workspace in accordance with the needs of their employees. While office trends come and go, one thing that does not change is the change itself.

Employees believe that they spend almost a third of their lives in the offices they work in, and therefore, it should be a principal responsibility of any organization to foster an environment that empowers people with the true freedom to work, think and collaborate naturally. What does freedom mean in an actual sense? Let’s take an example.

Talk of 2019, more and more offices, today, seem to be changing for the best. The typical scenario – open workspaces, casual attire, fun activities, game rooms and even quiet places to nap – have turned out to be the norm of the day. Company-wide charity and health workshops, tasty snacks and coffee, decorated workstations, soothing music, annual days, casual fitness competitions and other fun strategies have completely made the workplace a twenty-first-century environment where employees enjoy the work and in return, productivity and happiness just spill out. Well, the Ergode family can highly relate to this as this is an everyday scenario for us.

But ever thought how this friendly environment could actually encourage employee productivity? We observed it in Ergode and here are the conclusions drawn.

In the case of creative jobs such as those of content writers, graphic designers, developers, they need to continually work on finding innovative ways to bring out the best communications method. A little bit of music, some freedom to choose to the workplace to sit and scribble thoughts becomes essential to feed their thoughts. Any creative restrictions can cause an impact on employee’s performance.

I remember recently we had Mother’s Day and Father’s Day celebration at Ergode and the happiness observed on these employees’ faces was something inexplicable. Several such small occasions foster such meaningful office relationships, which increases the overall team bonding.

Now some companies may disagree on this, but casual attire, too, can be one of the motivating factors for employees to come for work and give their best in the day. When allowed to dress more comfortably (till the time they dress up modestly), their confidence and their productivity are bound to increase.

No matter how much one loves the job, it’s still a job at the end of the day and in hard times, one might feel agitated and apprehensive. But this friendly environment is what sparks the productivity in the employees despite all the ongoing challenges. The environment that helps people to flourish and feel free is what makes the change happen from “I have to do this work.” to “I want to do this work.” in an office.
