Multilateralism: Together We Stand Strong!

Reading through the newspaper on this Sunday morning, the devastating state of turmoil in Sudan took me into deep thoughts. One thing that I could realize was that the state of affairs on the global front was not really quite appealing and multilateralism has to be a very crucial topic of talk of the day. When nations work together rather than retreat into insularity, that is when we can get on top of issues so much more effectively.

“In a world in which all problems are global, there is no way countries can handle issues by themselves; we need global responses.”

– António Guterres, UN Secretary-General

Already the UN and many similar organizations have been showing up an excellent job in providing relief to different nations with whatever more or less resources they have. The active support provided to the refugees, war victims, diseased and the poverty-stricken in different nations has already inspired so many other nations to take an active call to improve the situation.

The progress of the world is not a matter of one day. It is the result of a series of choices. Multilateralism is the way things can fall in place. When people from around the world unite and decide to work together on solving the ongoing global issues, it is then we move towards a better world. But what if these sound nations start pulling their hands from their engagement in the world?

“Without trust, we cannot face difficult challenges in our world.”

The sight can turn gruesome and it would not be an ideal scenario in any way. It might as well, worsen the situation if the nations are abandoned in the midst of misery and chaos. The civil war in Sudan, the refugees in Syria, Africa, and Bangladesh, the issues of poverty and climate change in many nations – all need a strong call for action. In a scenario like this, what would these nations do all alone?

So, let us all adopt the humanitarian approach and make the world a safer and more equitable place. Let us find ways to lower the number of displaced people worldwide, eliminate the issues of poverty and diseases, and by preventing and solving the conflicts that drive these issues severe. A common action taken together by all the nations, based on common interests and universal aspirations for security, dignity, and equality can make this world a lot better place to live in.

“When nations come together, change quietly follows.

Multilateralism is the only answer as together we stand strong.”
