A Therapeutic Travel

We live in a world which is marked by its diversity, made rich by its culture and decorated by its landscape. However, in the fast-paced life of today, we are hardly able to explore even a tiny percentage of this planet due to being completely engulfed by our routines and commitments.

Traveling as such gets pushed to the sidelines, a wish that dwells in the dust of our closets. I for a matter believe that traveling is essential for not only increasing one’s knowledge but also helping improve one’s health and broaden one’s mind.

In many ways, traveling can be considered one of the best forms of therapy for a person. A massive stress reliever that not only relaxes a person but enriches him in various ways.

Having traveled to various places across the globe, there are certain things that captivate me about this initiative. From the planning stage itself, it fills one with excitement and anticipation of the unknown. A well-deserved break from the drudgeries of routine, traveling helps one feel refreshed and completely move out and forget about everyday priorities and problems.

Apart from this it also helps in breaking stereotypes that are usually ingrained in our minds from our exposure to second-hand sources.

I especially recall one particular trip to the ancient land of Egypt. Having read immensely about this ancient civilization in history books the image I associated Egypt with was only the Great Pyramids and the magnificent Sphinx that guards its doors. However, when I landed on the shores of the Nile, I was in for a massive surprise.

Not only was I dazzled by the midnight blue of the massive Nile, but The Great Pyramids were revealed to me to be only a minuscule part of what Egypt had to offer.

From the Temples at Luxor to the paintings of the Valley of the Kings, from the massive Alexandrian coastline to the delicious cuisine, what I was met with was not only the sand dunes and ancient architecture of my bookish reads but numerous bustling metropolitan cities with their own unique customs and learnings.

I learned about their staple diet and the value of water, the taste of their spiced tea and their greetings in Urdu. However, what I finally took back home was a bagful of memories and a better understanding of the country and its people.

Apart from this, I felt completely refreshed and revitalized, ready to get back to work full of energy and with new learnings that I could share with my colleagues, breaking even their understanding of an otherwise mysterious land.

Therefore, pack those bags and apply for that long-postponed break and step out to explore the world. After all,

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.”
